Mundo Bizarro

After a quiet day in the garden, Pietermaai is where Willemstad comes alive at night, and Mundo Bizarro is one of its best-loved corners. The bar and restaurant sits in a restored colonial building on Nieuwestraat, with a terrace strung with lights and a room full of wonderfully odd things: old furniture, curious art and collected treasures in every corner.

The mood is Cuban-inspired and easy-going. Settle in with a mojito or a cold local beer, order something to share and watch the street fill up as the evening goes on. The venue has long been known for live music nights, so ask what’s on during your stay.

Pietermaai itself is worth the trip. Once a grand merchant district, its pastel mansions have been brought back to life as small hotels, bars and restaurants, and it is lovely to stroll between them once the heat of the day has gone.

Come for sunset drinks and stay for dinner, or head over later for a nightcap. The district is about a ten-minute drive from the lodge, so arrange a taxi so everyone can relax and enjoy the night.
