Shete Boka National Park

Curaçao’s north coast is a world away from the calm beaches near the lodge. At Shete Boka National Park, which means “seven inlets”, the sea crashes into the limestone cliffs with real force, sending spray high into the air and echoing through hidden caves.

Start at Boka Tabla, where a short path leads down to a viewing spot inside a cave as the waves roll in. From there, trails lead along the coast to the other inlets. At Boka Pistol, the water shoots up through the rocks with a sound like a gunshot, which is how it got its name. The inlets are also nesting sites for sea turtles, and the park protects them.

This is a place for watching, not swimming, so stay behind the barriers and away from the edge. Bring water, a hat and good walking shoes, as there is little shade.

The park is open daily from 9am to 5pm. It is on the road to Westpunt, close to Christoffel National Park, so the two make a great day out together. Come in the morning for softer light, or later in the afternoon when the heat eases and the waves glow in the sun.
