The Niffo Huts

Here is Danita’s idea of a perfect Sint Michiel evening. Head down to The Niffo Huts at Boka Sami about half an hour before sunset, find a table on the sand and have dinner with your feet in the sand while the sky changes colour over the Caribbean.

The Niffo Huts is a relaxed, colourful beach restaurant at the very end of the road in Boka Sami. The setting is simple and laid-back, the staff are friendly and the view does the rest. Favourites from the lodge are the tuna burger or tuna salad, and the grilled picanha.

If you’d like to walk off dinner, or want the best seat in the house for the sunset itself, cross the bridge and follow the hiking trail up to the old fort. The view from the rocks up there, as the sky turns orange, pink and purple, is one of the best sunset spots on the island.

The Niffo Huts is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from midday until 10pm. It is popular at sunset, so call ahead to reserve a table if you’re a group. It is only a few minutes from the lodge, which makes it an easy first-night dinner after you arrive.
