Staying in an open-air palapa in a tropical garden is a little different from a hotel room. Here are the answers to the questions our guests ask most often, so you know exactly what to expect at Mondi Lodge in Sint Michiel, Curaçao.
What time are check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is by 11am. If your flight times don’t fit, send us a message and we’ll help where we can.
What’s included in the rate?
Tax, cleaning, wifi, electricity and water are all included, along with daily housekeeping. The only extra is anything you take from the minibar.
What exactly is a palapa?
A palapa is an open-sided wooden cabin with a thatched palm-leaf roof. Ours stand on poles in the garden. The living space is open to the breeze and the birdsong, while the bedrooms are enclosed and air-conditioned. Each palapa has a kitchenette, wifi, organic toiletries and a porch.
Will I see wildlife?
Almost certainly. Iguanas and tree lizards sun themselves on the paths, and hummingbirds and parakeets visit the trees. Now and then a flamingo drops by. It is all part of staying in a real garden, so bring insect repellent and a torch for the paths at night.
Is the pool heated?
The pool is shared and unheated, but in Curaçao’s climate it rarely needs to be. It’s a Magnapool, so it is chlorine-free and gentle on your skin.
Can I cook?
Yes. Every palapa has a small kitchenette, and there’s an outdoor kitchen with barbecue facilities in the garden that you can use at any time.
Is the lodge accessible?
Kunuku, one of our two-bedroom palapas, is wheelchair accessible, with an adapted toilet and sink and a roll-in outdoor shower. The lodge is also suitable for older guests and people with limited mobility. Please get in touch so we can talk through your needs.
Are children and pets welcome?
Children are very welcome. We’re unable to accept pets.
Is there parking?
Yes. The lodge is gated, and parking is included.
Do I need a car?
We recommend one. The airport and Willemstad are around ten minutes away, and a car lets you explore the national parks and beaches. We can arrange hire through our local partner Prins.
How can I help keep my stay sustainable?
Use the recycling at the lodge, hand in any used batteries and ask us for a beach clean-up kit. You’ll find more in our digital guest directory.
