Packing for Curaçao is refreshingly simple: it’s warm all year, dress is casual and you’ll spend most of your time outdoors. For a stay at Mondi Lodge in Sint Michiel, a few extra items make all the difference, and most of them help you travel more lightly too.
For the water
- Snorkel and mask. Turtles graze in the sea grass at Boka Sami, just down the road, so you’ll want your own gear ready to go.
- Reef-friendly sun protection. Choose a mineral sunscreen and cover up with a rash vest for long snorkels. The reefs will thank you.
- Water shoes. Many beaches are part sand, part pebble and rock.
- A quick-dry towel for beach days. We have beach chairs you can take with you.
For the trails
- Proper walking shoes. Trails such as the Sint Michielsberg and Malpais are rocky, and can be muddy after rain.
- A hat and a reusable water bottle. Go early and carry more water than you think you’ll need.
- Binoculars. Flamingos on the saliñas, parakeets in the garden and, if you’re lucky, a white-tailed deer.
For the lodge
- Light, breathable clothes and something with long sleeves for the evening.
- Insect repellent, as you’re in a real garden.
- A light rain jacket if you’re travelling towards the end of the year.
- A torch or headlamp for garden paths after dark.
What you can leave at home
You don’t need to pack shampoo, shower gel or soap: we provide organic, all-natural toiletries. Every palapa has a kitchenette, wifi and daily housekeeping, and there’s an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue, so there’s no need for extras. And there’s no chlorine to worry about: our Magnapool is chlorine-free, which is kinder to your skin and your swimwear.
Small things that help the island
- A reusable shopping bag for trips to the market.
- A small container for snacks on the beach, so nothing gets left behind.
- Used batteries: bring them to us rather than the bin, and we’ll send them to the Netherlands to be recycled properly.
Want to help even more? Ask us for a beach clean-up kit, post your results and tag us, and we’ll say thank you with a gift.
